Visual Thinking Courses

Visual Thinking is the ability to create and present a visual story. This course covers visual storytelling, digital tools, and presentation. Hermen teaches you how to develop a visual presentation. You’ll leave the course with new skills and a greater understanding of visual storytelling. You’ll be able to use visuals to solve problems and communicate your ideas with a variety of audiences.

Casey Reas

If you are looking for a course that will teach you how to develop an interactive piece using code, then Casey Reas’ visual thinking course might be perfect for you. Reas, who was born in Troy, Ohio, is a computer artist, educator, and programmer. His work incorporates emergent networks, layered instructions, and other creative techniques. He is currently a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Reas grew up outside of Dayton, Ohio, and majored in graphic design at the University of Cincinnati. He also had a special interest in book design. He first went digital in the mid-1990s, when he interned with a San Francisco-based book publisher and taught himself HTML.

Justin Hermen

It will equip you with problem-solving skills and communication tools to get the most out of your ideas. Hermen is a design strategist and founder of Artifizer, a company dedicated to helping people solve complex problems through visual thinking. You’ll learn to use visual frameworks to communicate ideas, as well as how to communicate them creatively.

While you’re learning the principles of visual thinking, the course will also teach you how to use digital tools to make your presentations more effective. Hermen has a background as a graphic designer and has worked with clients in Europe, the U.S., China, and the Middle East. He also volunteers regularly to create positive change. Flickr

Flickr is a photo-sharing community where members share their photographs and engage in conversations. These conversations create a community where people appreciate images and develop interpersonal relationships. Students were able to see the work of other Flickr members and appreciated the collaborative nature of Flickr. However, some students wanted more control over the collection of photos. They wanted to be able to specify a theme or set of tags for their collection.

Using Flickr as an educational tool, this CUNY As a Lab class developed a website to collect data about the student experience in CUNY institutions. They analyzed the digital photographs they found to provide clues about campus life. Students also created a class Flickr account and posted photos to it.

Complex Infographics

The first step in developing complex infographics is planning them. It is important to make sure your infographic tells a story. The story can be simple or complex, but it should be based on data. For example, you can create an infographic to explain a scientific procedure or one that presents a list of terms. In either case, your infographic should be a story based on data and a single point of view.

While colour is an excellent communication tool, it should never be the only distinction in the infographic. People who are colourblind will have a hard time interpreting your infographic if it relies on colour alone. This is why keeping the colour palette minimal will encourage you to use other visual tools in your infographic. Another important step in creating an infographic is keeping the illustrations simple, as this will allow viewers to focus on the data. The illustrations should also support the main message, rather than interpreting the data.

Sketchnoting

Sketchnoting is a form of note-taking that uses images and drawings to convey information effectively. It is a great tool for teachers and learners alike to visualize and communicate content. This technique is also useful for students who are learning a new language or complex subject matter. Sketchnotes can serve as the basis for lectures and can help students to retain important information.
